Tips in Fixing an Old Dish Recoder

How to reset dish receiver? I got my latest dishwasher recently, so I thought I’d do a quick ‘how-to’ on resetting it too. Of course, I never thought that I would be taking apart one of my appliances! Luckily, I managed to find a video tutorial online which helped me to put the dish receiver back together in half the time. Here’s how:

First things first. Turn off the power to your dish receiver. To do this, remove the power cable of your dish TV receiver from the outlet for 10 seconds, and plug it back in. It’s that simple! If you’ve done it once, it’s done twice!

The next step is to disconnect the TV from your home TV set.

Next, turn up the volume and any other sounds that may be affecting your reception. Take note of the sound levels and make sure they’re not distracting. Then disconnect the antenna cable from the back of the satellite dish.

Hold the dish receiver between your hands, with the help of two hands. Squat down, with the antenna facing down. You should be able to see the little slot where the satellite tv dish antenna used to be.

Adjust the locking lever to the open position (you should now see a slot where the antenna used to be). Now disconnect the antenna cable from its back. It’s important to take note that if the receiver has a locking lever, the dish antenna is not fully locked-up. If this happens, all that’s needed is to pull the antenna cable slightly out to unlock it. Then you can lift up the dish antenna by turning it over.

Hold the receiver close to the wall and unplug it from the power cord.

You’ll need to take note that if the receiver is a hard reset type, all that’s needed is to pull down the shroud, and remove the back cover. Turn on the breaker and reset the power cord. If all is well, then turn back on the television set to view the television. If there’s still no response, then it’s essential that you contact the service provider to have the unit tested.

On units that are hard reset, a common problem is the dish receiver failing to receive a valid signal after a week of ownership. The first thing you should do is test the connections. Pull out the antenna cable to check whether there’s an opening in the case. Then insert a standard TV plug and see if the receiver receives a signal.

Most hard reset units that fail to receive a signal come with a plastic dome-type cover. This is the means by which the dish offers protection against interference. If this plastic barrier is broken, the satellite dish offers very little protection against radio frequencies. The other way for this to occur is if the receiver is being held against a magnet, and a strong magnetic field is being applied to the receiving dish.

The other problem that causes the receiver to fail to receive a signal

is a broken cable from the satellite to the receiver. This is actually the easiest way for a dish receiver to fail as the faulty cable serves as a means of transmitting the signals. The cables are often black or green in color, indicating the position of their direct connection with the satellite. If these cables are not properly attached to the satellite dish, they may act as a barrier to the signal, therefore negating the effectiveness of the signal and causing the receiver to disconnect from the satellite.

Once you’ve determined that your receiver has been experiencing these problems with its satellite dish, then you can easily fix it. First, unplug the receiver from its power source. Then, take a look at the receiver’s circuit board. If you see a white wire, this signifies that this is the receiver’s power wire. If you see a gray wire, this means that this is the transmitters power wire. Finally, if you notice a yellow or orange wire, this is the data cable that carries the digital signal and is located between the antenna and the dish.

Once you have found the correct power wire,

unplug it and discard it. Then, take a look at the circuit board again. If you see two separate circuits, this indicates that the cable has been disconnected in the wrong place. On the other hand, if you see only one circuit, then you know that the cable was successfully connected between the antenna and the dish. Now that you know the correct location of the power cable, remove the old one and attach the new one.

If everything was successfully completed, then you can successfully test your reset dish receiver. Hold your antenna dish up to the sky and make sure that the directional feed feeds work correctly. You can also test the reception quality by holding the dish up to your head to transmit the signal. If both channels work, then you can assume that your dish is working fine.
