Technology and the Conservationist The Conservationist can say this, “technology is an approach to problem solving.” I firmly agree, we need to be more ecological, more conscious of what we’re doing in our day to day lives. The same applies to conservation science. Technology may be a wonderful tool, but is often used in a manner that damages or threatens the environment. The Conservationist must use technology in a way that helps preserve the environment for our offspring.

 

Let’s start with the common misconception about technology. We don’t want it to run away, we want it to be used in a way that benefits mankind and nature. As stated before, technology is wonderful, but it has to be used in a way that does not impact the environment. Technology can, and sometimes does, play a role in how our society protects itself, and how the natural world is preserved. Some tools are more effective than others, for instance:

 

Light Batteries conserve energy in general. But, they do so in such a way that humans and nature are not directly impacted. For example, when you charge your cell phone battery, it is not in a landfill. Instead, the energy is stored in plastic in a battery charger, which then runs down the battery taking the power from the light bulb. This charge is then recharged by turning on the light bulb again. The battery is reusable, and saves both landfill space and the Earth.

 

Another great example is cell phones. They use one of the most energy wasting forms of technology available. They also are not disposable. Instead, they can be left in the earth, or taken to the ocean to reuse for boating. Again, they are reusable and conserve the Earth.

 

How about toys? Technology is wonderful for teaching kids to interact with their environment. Electronic blocks, cars and musical instruments are just a few examples of how technology and the conservationist can work together. As long as parents buy good grade-level sets with safety features and appropriate age appropriateness, these toys can help children interact while being environmentally conscious.

 

But, there are those who might say that technology has taken the place of conservation. Technology can solve many of society’s ills, and allow some people to live a lifestyle that might otherwise be out of bounds. This is true. It is also part of why technology is sometimes considered bad. People worry that if people continue to use newer and more efficient equipment, the older generations will not have the resources to enjoy life to its fullest.

 

This type of scenario is nothing new. There have always been efforts to use technology in order to facilitate people’s lifestyles, whether or not it is right. Conservationists argue that this is an ongoing battle that never ends, especially since the Earth is going through such dramatic changes due to human activity. Conservationists are trying to stop another wave of technological advancements before things get totally out of control.

 

Technology, on the other hand, provides solutions to certain problems. Conservationists say that they simply need to adapt to the changes, or find better ways to deal with the problems at hand. With the help of technology, they can find solutions, for example. But technology does not have to be used incorrectly; people can make it work to their advantage too. Conservationists simply need to get more creative about how they are using technology to create a better future for the world as a whole.

 

Some people would say that it is a pointless argument. After all, isn’t technology supposed to make our lives easier? Certainly not! The real issue is that there is so much information and technology floating around on the Internet that the average person just has to sift through a lot in order to get anything done. This can be a problem, as some information or technology is outdated and no longer useful to users.

 

As a result, conservationists have to use creative methods to keep people interested in their cause. One solution that has worked for them is to use technology and do things that people might not normally do, like making speeches and encouraging public participation in various projects. In this way, the conservationist doesn’t have to use up all their time writing letters, making speeches, or participating in various activities; they can instead save that time to actually saving the planet for future generations.

 

Another thing that is great about technology is that it allows people to communicate and get information quickly. It is also cheaper than manual means, which makes using the Internet even more popular. Conservationists have also found that their use of technology actually spurs more interest among the general public, who feel like conserving is important and that they should be doing it as well. All of these things are reasons why the use of technology in the conservation field is crucial to conserving the environment.
